But not everything that has a beginning does. It could just be all beginning, with nothing else. That’s pretty much what Lazlo has been for a while now. But soon it will officially begin, and once the beginning has started, the middle will be set to start, so that it can begin as soon as the beginning ends. I guess what I’m saying is, Oct. 31st is still the official unofficial publication date of the first issue (12 pages). And by ‘publication’ I mean printing off a few copies for close friends. (Close friends being people who pay me for a copy.)
Scratch that.
What can I say? It’s a work in progress. Plans for the first issue of Dr. Lazlo have changed slightly. The plan is still to premier it on Halloween. The story is the same. But those pages I posted last time? Yeah, those are changing. Over the weekend, I plotted out the first 9 or 10 issues, and in the process changed how the whole thing will start. So, stay tuned for that and stuff.

A Taste of Things to Come
Right now I’m working on a mock-up first draft, done on plain ol’ printing paper, using nothing but a straight edge, a pencil, a sharpie and some grapes. (I won’t say what the grapes are for.) This, the opening scene, introduces us to Quinn, girl-crazy teenage outcast and hero of our story. Also making an appearance, Nikki Fink (hot chick), Mr. Boor (History teacher), and Jean-Jacques Rousseau (18th century philosopher and Frenchman).
Sorry the pictures are so small. Don’t worry, the final product will be at least…twice this size.

Until next time, keep watching the skies! (All kinds of crazy crap happens in the skies.)

Issue #1: “The Way We Were”
Work has officially begun on the first issue of Dr. Lazlo, and it is titled “The Way We Were.” The title refers not only to the 1973 Streisand/Redford film by the same name, but also to the fact that this issue will mainly be about setting up the status quo of the story, in preparation for the inevitable upsetting of the aforementioned status quo in subsequent issues.
In other news: we may (may!) have secured a printer. There are too many variables still up in the air, but some interest has been expressed by a third party. (Me being the first party, and you the second. Since neither of us is going to print the thing, that makes them the third party. And that’s a party I want to be at.)
Until next time!

COMING: HALLOWEEN 2008
The first issue of the new comic Dr. Lazlo or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Undead will premier on October 31st, 2008. It’s a story of love, adventure, intrigue, conspiracy, high school, politics, and greed, set against the backdrop of a world after the first zombie uprising.
